August Block Lotto — Bookshelf Block

It’s back-to -school time! This month’s Block Lotto is a bookshelf block using a tutorial by Kelli Fannin. Be sure to check out the different layouts she has on the tutorial. These blocks are easily reversed, which makes the finished project more interesting. So if you make multiples, do some each way. These blocks finish at 8″ and would make a great wall hanging or table runner.

Use the following guidelines:
— For the books, use various bright modern fabrics. This block is a perfect way to use your scraps.
— For the “shelf” use a solid or reads-as-solid brown.
— For the background, use solid black – Kona black is preferred, so use that if you have it. It will help the blocks go together nicely. But if you don’t have Kona, no worries – use what you have.

The block tutorial can be found here:

As a reminder, these blocks will be turned in at the September meeting and the lotto is open only to current, paid members. Questions? Email blocklotto@indymqg.com

June Block Lotto — Grow Wild

We’re going to stretch a bit for our June block. We’re making flowers for summer using Eudaimonia Studios Grow Wild Block. This block uses Half Rectangle Triangles to make a modern flower. The pattern as written makes two 12 1/2″ unfinished blocks.

Because of the structure of our July meeting, which is the Artist Chat at the Garfield Park Exhibition, we’re giving you TWO months to make this block. These blocks will be turned in at the AUGUST meeting.

Use the following guidelines:
— For the petals (Colors 1-4) use one color, but different fabrics to make scrappy petals
— For the leaves (Colors 5 & 6) use scrappy greens
— For the background, use a solid white (Kona White or similar, not cream or off-white)

Fall Retreat 2023

Our spring retreat is happening September 21-24, 2023 at the FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar, Indiana, starting at 9 AM on Thursday and ending at 2 PM on Sunday. We’ll have the entire Fellowship Hall space to ourselves for sewing, socializing, snacks, and shenanigans! There is space for 13 overnighters to have their own beds and 8 single-day retreat-goers on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday.

To register, please follow the PayPal prompts:

Fall Retreat

If you’d like to participate in the snack swap, fill out this form to help guide your secret partner on what to surprise you with.

To keep members as safe as possible while we are eating, sleeping, sewing, and laughing in a communal space, the IMQG board has decided on the following protocol to prevent the spread of COVID-19. All attendees must do the following:
— Test for COVID infection before attending the retreat, at least the morning of their first day of attendance. Testing a few times in the two weeks before the event is encouraged, especially if there has been a suspected (or known!) exposure. Antigen tests done at home are acceptable. Many insurance plans reimburse for at-home tests or provide them free of charge.
— Skip attending the retreat if they test positive within 10 days of their arrival. The guild will refund your money and miss seeing you but there’s always next time!
— Be willing to make concessions for others’ safety if they are experiencing symptoms of a cold or other contagious respiratory illness (e.g., wear a surgical mask when not eating or drinking, sleep separately). This is especially courteous during a cold & flu season when many people have weakened immunity to other infections after experiencing COVID.
— Test for COVID infection 3–7 days after attending the retreat and share the results with the other attendees.
