2021 Fall Retreat

Our spring retreat will take place the weekend of April 3-5 October 1-3 (After a year+ long COVID postponement) at the FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar, Indiana. We’ll have the full day Friday starting at 9am until checkout at 2pm on Sunday. We’ll have the entire Fellowship Hall space to ourselves which sleeps 20. As the space is so large and the location is so close to Indianapolis, this year we are opening up spaces for 5 quilters to attend as single day retreat goers on Friday or Saturday in addition to the 20 full weekend slots.

Sign ups will be first come first served therefore we are asking that everyone use the PayPal form below to register. The form is set up to prevent overselling of the available slots for the weekend and each day. If the retreat is sold out when you try to sign up, you’ll be taken to a wait list sign-up form. After submitting your payment, you’ll be taken to a form to sign up for the voluntary Snack Swap activity at the retreat.  Details about that swap are included in the form.

July 2021 Exhibition at Garfield Park Arts Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Indy Modern Quilt Guild hosts inaugural exhibition at Garfield Park Arts Center

July 2, 2021 — Showcasing the talents of greater Indianapolis quilters, the Indy Modern Quilt Guild debuts its Exhibition 2021 at Garfield Park Arts Center on July 2-31, 2021.

The show features around 50 works from over 20 artists, highlighting various aspects of modern quilting including minimalism, asymmetry, improvisational piecing, negative space, bright and graphic pallets, and modern traditionalism.

“Modern quilting brings a fresh perspective to traditional quilting with fun and bright colors, bold graphic prints, and simplicity in layout and design,” said Sacha Brady, Exhibition coordinator and IMQG member. “The quilts demonstrate a colorful and wide variety of styles, approaches, and designs.”

This is the fourth quilt show for the guild displaying the interpretations of the conventions of modern quilting in their pieces, but the largest show IMQG has undertaken.

“We are excited for our new partnership with the Indy Modern Quilt Guild and to introduce our audience to the concept of modern quilting.” said Kavita Mahoney, Manager of the Garfield Park Arts Center. “This exhibition will be a unique opportunity for guests to engage with the medium of quilting in a completely different way.”

The Indy MQG Exhibition 2021 will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays in July from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Garfield Park Arts Center on Conservatory Drive in Indianapolis. Guild members will be on hand opening night, July 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., to mingle with guests and answer questions.

Started as an online forum in 2010 for modern sewists to connect and create together, no matter ages, skill levels, or quilting backgrounds, the guild joined the global Modern Quilt Guild organization in 2013.

IMQG plans to resume face to face meetings and programing in the coming months.

  • Have a finished binding or facing on the edge of the quilt.
  • Have a label attached to the back of the quilt identifying the maker.

Additional Information

Your quilt may be any size. Keep in mind that due to the limits of the exhibition space, very large quilts might not be displayed in their entirety (i.e., flat).

Entries may be disqualified if the submission form is not completed correctly and/or accurately.

GPAC reserves the right to refuse to display any quilt submitted for exhibition. IMQG reserves the right to reject any quilts that are in poor condition when received and seen in person. Any quilt that is rejected will be returned to the entrant and will not be displayed in the exhibit.

IMQG does not discriminate against entrants based on race, gender, age, disability, religion, national or ethnic origins, sexual orientation, marital status, or any other vector of oppression. All are welcome, truly.

Submission Fee

There is a $15 submission fee for the first submission and an additional $10 fee for each subsequent submission.  An invoice will be emailed to you upon your submission.  Alternatively, you can pay via the guild’s PayPal.Me.

Selling Your Quilt

You have the option to offer your quilt for sale at the IMQG show with the understanding that a 20% commission will go to Garfield Park Arts Center (10%) and IMQG (10%). The sale price is determined by you. If you do elect to place your quilt for sale, you cannot retroactively decide not to sell it during the exhibit.

Quilt Shipping

The guild will be collecting accepted quilts at the June monthly meeting and returning them at the August monthly meeting; it is recommended that you are available for both meetings or designate someone to act on your behalf. Any costs associated with shipping the quilt, either to IMQG before the exhibition or to you after the exhibition, will be borne solely by you.
